Established a new Songhai dynasty in 1464. Ali expanded the size of the Songhai kingdom by conquering Timbuktu and Djenne. Controlled both the government and the military. These conquests allowed the Songhai to gain control of the salt and gold trade that had previously made both Ghana and Mali prosperous.
