The Caravel was a type of medium-sized ship which, with its low draught and lateen or triangular sails, made it ideal for exploration, it was developed from a type of Portuguese fishing boat mid 15th century as prince henry the navigator looked to explore the world and gain access to trade networks it was invented 1430.
