"The Golden Age of Islam was a five-hundred year period lasting from about the eighth to the 13th centuries. It kept alive much of what we know about ancient civilizations. Some historians mark the end of the Golden Age around 1000, but most mark its end with the Mongol sacking of Baghdad in 1258. This ended the Abbasid dynasty and destroyed the House of Wisdom."
