William Ramsay (1 ene 1894 año – 1 ene 1894 año)
Descripción:
-
Alongside Lord Rayleigh, William Ramsey, a Scottish chemist, discovered argon, a noble gas in 1894.
While investigating argon in a uranium-bearing mineral, Ramsay discovered helium, which had previously only been observed in the sun. This second discovery led him to suggest the existence of a new group of elements in the periodic table. With his colleagues, he then isolated neon, krypton, and xenon from the earth’s atmosphere, further expanding the noble gas family.
Ramsay's work on noble gases earned him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1904, along with Lord Rayleigh receiving the Nobel Prize in Physics for their discovery of argon.
