1009 - 1492 AD: A taifa was an independent Muslim-ruled principality in the Iberian Peninsula that emerged from the decline and fall of the Umayyad Caliphate of Córdoba between 1009 and 1031 due to internal strife and external pressures. The taifas made regular payments of parias (tribute) to the Christian kings, but the payments became a fiscal burden that drained the treasuries of these local rulers. By the end of the 13th century, only one remained, the Emirate of Granada, the rest being incorporated into the Christian states of the north.Añadido al timeline:
