Causes:
1. Germany was afraid to focus on their goals because they had the fear that the Soviet would attack.

Effects:
1. The agreement permitted Nazi Germany to avoid conflict on two fronts a while.
2. It gave the Soviet Union on opportunity of time to mend and strengthen its militaries.
3. It gave Germany exactly what Hitler had desired, which was unrestricted rein to attack Poland.
4. The two nations decided that they would not attack one another and in secret divided the countries that laid between the two of them.
