League Of Nations (10 ene 1920 año – 18 abr 1946 año)
Descripción:
Causes:
1. The founders of the league of nations shared the intention to avoid another worldwide confrontation like World War I and preserve world peace through creating a platform to discuss global challenges regardless they were political, economic or health related.
Effects:
1. The foundation of the league of nations was the first step towards an international rules based order where countries agreed to solve conflicts by diplomacy rather than armed conflict.
2. Up until that point most of the worlds countries had either a young democracy or no democracy at all, as they would be ruled by kings or dictators. By promoting dialogue the democratic forces tried to establish a bigger foothold in the international community.
3. Some minor successes were booked in the early days particularly in the area of public health.
4. The biggest problem of the league of nations was its lack of formal power to force its members to do the right thing. Proof of that was that the league of nations were unable to prevent the aggressors of world war two to attack other nations.
5. Also many important countries never formally joined the league. Such as the United States of America.
6. Probably the biggest achievement of the league of nations was that it was a stepping stone towards the united nations which was founded after the second world war. Without the learnings and the failings of the league of nations, the united nations wouldn’t have been the stable and influential organisation that it is today.
