Salem Witch Trials (1 abr 1692 año – 1 oct 1692 año)

Descripción:

During this time period, Salem, Massachusetts had a crisis on their hands. It appeared that there were several witches in town.

Keep in mind that this was a time before rationalism - Puritan New England kept a firm hand over domestic matters. In the beginning, one accused girl was hung - Bridget Bishop, some time in June. 18 more people were hung by the time the hysteria subsided, with 150 others accused (but not executed). Eventually the courts gave amenities to the accused, after public outcry about the event came around in September. (History.com 2011)

Due to this event, many turned against those accused, as superstition was rife during this time. The state and locality involved still have the record against them to this day - though, now it's used for tourism.
