Ida B. Wells, born in 1962 in Holy Springs, Mississippi, was an American journalist and political activist. As a journalist she led an anti-lynching crusade in the US in the 1890s and as a political activist she promoted justice for African Americans, especially for African Amercian women. She was investigating and reporting of violent racial acts under her pen name 'Iola' to prevent herself from being pursued by White supremacists. With 'Southern Horrors. Lynch law in all its phases' and 'Red record' she published writings that documented several lynchings and captured international public attention. Additionally, she was involved in protests for womens rights and gave political speeches even in Europe.
