Key Grindstead (1 ene 1630 año – 1 ene 1665 año)
Descripción:
Elizabeth Key Grindstead was one of the first African American persons to win her freedom in a court process. She was born in 1630 to an Englishman who had an affair with an African American woman. After his death, when she was still very young, Elizabeth came in the hand of a white planter who made her his servant. In 1655, her illegal husband and attorney defended her in front of a court to sue for freedom from slavery. After many struggles, she won freedom for herself and her son in 1656. She could only spend her last 9 years in freedom, as she died in 1665.
