This battle is also known as the Blitz. The Luftwaffe, the German airforce, targeted port cities and manufacturing centers in Great Britain. Germany's goal was to cripple Great Britain so that German forces could successfully invade England. London was bombed for several months consecutivealy and thousands of civilians were killed.
