By the late-1980s, nations understood that the Soviet Union was out of control and out of line. Events like Operation Danube showed countries that once believed in both communism and the Soviet Union saw that they would do anything to help them gain total control. As a result of all these things nations in Eastern Europ began an anti-Soviet and anti-communist movement.
The movement caused to countries, such as East Germany, to leave the Warsaw Pact.
