The Tea Act (1773) triggered renewed protests against the British East India Company's tea monopoly. Committees of correspondence spread word to boycott tea. The Boston Tea Party in December 1773 protested the tea tax. The Intolerable Acts (1774) passed in response, closing Boston Harbor and further angering colonies.
