8. Reconstruction (Lesson 11) (1 ene 1865 año – 1 ene 1896 año)

Descripción:

The Reconstruction period started from 1865 and ended in 1877. After the Civil War between the union and the Confederates, the country had to unify the nation and recover all the destruction that came with the war. One of the main focuses was to rebuild the devastated South who had lost the war. With president Abraham Lincoln's death from assassination on April 15, 1865, this task fell into the hands of the nation’s Vice President, Andrew Johnson; rebuilding cities and reconstructing a nation after such a destructive war grew into a real challenge for Americans. However, this era did open doors for new possibilities. Johnson began his plan soon after taking over the office which eventually ended the Reconstruction, every southern state had a new government and the Thirteenth Amendment was added to the Constitution. Nevertheless, racial segregation was still an issue after the South returned to the “White man’s rule.” At the end, they established the Jim Crow Laws that segregated the Black People from the White in public.
