A war fought by Britain and Prussia against France and Austria, the Seven Years’ War in Europe started when the Austrians wanted to retake Silesia. This led to a conflict between Prussia and Austria, while at the same time France and Britain fought across the world, especially in North America and in India. The war was won by the British, who established themselves as the dominant global superpower.
