The king of Prussia after Frederick Wilhelm I, Frederick II took over Silesia in the War of the Austrian Succession, and was able to successfully protect against an invasion from France, Austria, and Russia. Frederick enacted many reforms in Prussia, including banning torture and expanding education. He also believed in cameralism, the idea that a monarch’s power should be absolute, and he should use that power to better the lives of his subjects.
