Beliefs:
- Church was corrupt and did not properly follow the Bible
- all people with faith were equal
- only inner grace & faith guaranteed salvation

What he did:
- 95 Theses
- reduced 7 sacraments to 2 (baptism & communism)
- rejected belief in purgatory (place where soul goes to cleanse before heaven) because it was not in the Bible- it was invented by the Church
- tried to ally with Jews because both found Catholics corrupt- but later turned against them when they did not convert to Lutheranism
