The Ares 2 Mission reached the Ares Martian Gateway in early 2046, touching down at a new smaller but better supplied surface base than that of Ares I. Under the careful and well managed guidance of AMI along with the I.S.A.'s mission control, the primary aim of this mission was to work on the construction of more permanent habitations using metals mined on-site from the martian surface.

The mission was a success, and the human crew performed well with their assigned task of mining, refining and molding martian materials for the construction of the rest of their base.

The findings of the Ares II mission would be instrumental in planning stages of Ares III and IV, where a far larger and far more permanant radiation-shielded dome would be constructed and inhabited for over a decade.
