Sinking of the Lusitania (7 mayo 1915 año – 7 mayo 1915 año)
Descripción:
German U-boat (Unterseebooten) torpedoed British passenger liner, Lusitania, killing 1,200 passengers,128 U.S.citizens. The sinking of the Lusitania caused Wilson to announce that any further destruction of ships would be considered “deliberately unfriendly” and might lead the U.S. to break diplomatic relations with Germany. We see the U.S. start to step away from “absolute neutrality.” The U.S. supplies 40 percent of war material to France and Britian and provides loans. Germany is being starved out by British and alienated from trade, so they decide to continue to use submarine warfare. Wilson tries to resist warfare but breaks off domestic relations with Germany. The sinking of the Lusitania turned American opinion against the Germans, moving towards entering war.
