Good Times is a sitcom about a black working class family who live in a Chicago Housing Project. JJ is one of the main characters, he is a young artist but also a stereotypical character who is often the butt of the joke for making poor decisions and getting in trouble and running in to issues with authority and the law. Robin Boylorn mentions this show and this character specifically in her article, "as Seen on TV" as a character her and her siblings often laughed at and enjoyed without realizing how damaging this character was to their community until they got older.
