Cesare Beccaria was a wealthy noble that studies law. People considered him as a legal philosopher, economist, and politician. Beccaria believed in the rights of the accused, or criminal justice because he didn't like the way criminals were treated. He was also against death penalties, corrupt court systems, and secret trials. Beccaria even made a book in 1764 named On Crimes and Punishments about all of his ideas and what he was against. Also, Beccaria believed in innocent until proven guilty, which was a new idea brought to his period of time.
