During WWII, political polarizers used many different strategies to polarize Americans on both sides of the political spectrum. The war was used by many on the right to spread a pro-military and pro-nationalistic agenda, showing the conflict as a fight between good and evil, while showing off Americans' patriotism. They also used the war to condemn those they thought were un-American. The conflict was used by those on the left to push nonviolence and denounce the government's policies, mainly those concerning civil rights and racial discrimination. They also drew attention to the inconsistencies between America's alleged devotion to democracy and its behavior overseas.
