The Medieval Era (1 ene 899 año – 1 ene 1500 año)
Descripción:
Music was mostly chant, though as time progressed, more voices are added, and the chant becomes the “melody” while other voices add texture.
Most of the chant is syllabic, with occasional melismatic passages. Most pieces are through-composed, though Machaut’s piece does have an ABA lyrical structure.
Organum style writing (lower portion of a chant set to slow moving rhythms while upper part on a different text with fast rhythms) would be adopted for the rest of the era from this time while other styles faded out of use.
