The Reconstruction Era (8 dic 1863 año – 31 mar 1877 año)

Descripción:

The Reconstruction Era in America was a period of time that followed the American Civil War. This time marked significant political and social changes that altered society, the political landscape, and civil rights. The Reconstruction Era brought forward needed change such as the abolition of slavery and the creation of civil rights and protections for African Americans. However, this era contributed to political polarization amongst Americans, specifically white, slave-owning nationalists. The Reconstruction Era implicated policies that were new to many white Southerners, and therefore had a divisive nature. Some instances of polarizing policies include the military presence in the South to ensure Reconstruction and suffrage for African Americans. WHite Democrats held a feeling of resentment toward these new policies, which led to the creation of various white supremacy groups, such as the Ku Klux Klan, and Jim Crow laws. The polarization that came from the Reconstruction Era was rooted in a sense of racism and discrimination, but nevertheless contributed to the overall political polarization of America.
