A revived interest in the aesthetic accomplishments of ancient Greece and Rome characterised the Classicism era in art history, which spanned the years 1550 to 1760. The classical styles of antiquity were replicated by artists and architects during this time, leading to a proliferation of works that placed an emphasis on symmetry, proportion, and balance. The founding of the Accademia di San Luca in Rome in 1577, which acted as a school for painters and architects and helped to the formation of the principles of classical art, was one significant event that took place during this time period. The advent of the Baroque style in the late 16th century threatened the supremacy of classicism and generated fresh artistic expressions that would eventually lead to the rococo style in the 18th century
