While Charaka studied all aspects of medicine, including the logic and philosophy underlying the Indian medicinal system, he focused on disease diagnosis and regarded Ayurveda as a comprehensive system of health care that addressed both preventive and curative aspects. He wrote this in the Charaka Samhita. Historians believe he lived between the 4th and 2nd centuries BCE.
