Descripción:

Aided freed slaves to adjust to their new life and help them arrive and live in new conditions. ( a foundation for them to start their new life on). Provided food, remedies, and clothing to not only former slaves but also poor whites.
BIGGEST SUCCESS: Providing Education to African-Americans (freed slaves).
This was SIGNIFICANT because prior to the Civil War, it was illegal for a slave to be taught to read or write. Education was also the key to political power and equality amongst the white people in America.
