Jeroboam I reigned in Israel for 22 years. He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. Ahijah the prophet met Jeroboam on the road and Ahijah ripped his coat into 12 pieces. He gave 10 to Jeroboam and said that he would become the king of 10 tribes and that the kingdom would split.
Extra detail: He was in charge of the forced labor for Solomon.
