Most info came from Marco Polo. He was from Venice, Italy. Wealthy merchant. His book inspires Columbus and starts the idea of exploration. Starts the age of exploration. Creates Europe's perception of Asia. Lived in Kublai Khan (Genghis Khans) grandsons court and becomes an Invisor. China had advancements in (money, postal, coal.) and he told Europe about them, but Europe thought he was a liar.

System of trade routes.
It reached its peak in the 700s CE.
Goods (Silk, ivory, dyes, foods, metals, spices, livestock, furs, slaves, gunpowder, etc).
Trade of ideas and beliefs to other regions.

Why: Why had Marco Polo been the only famous person to travel all of the Silk Road?
Desserts and mountains made traveling the entire way difficult and dangerous.
Ends in 1453 after the ottoman Empire closes it.
Ottoman empire, took over the Byzantine Empire, and didn't want people going through it. They used to tax trades, but they became close minded about other ideas. Cut ties with Europe. Europe tries to find a new way so they try going around the world, and end up finding the Americas.
Timely: The best place for trade. Spread items throughout Africa, Asia, and Europe.
Lasting: Spread ideas throughout the world. The closing leads to the Americas being discovered.
