Herero und Nama Aufstände / Genozid (1 ene 1904 año – 1 ene 1907 año)
Descripción:
The Germans began putting Herero on reservations in 1897, by 1903, one half of the
Herero’s cattle had moved into European hands, and in 1904, the Herero declare
war, and are initially successful in attacking German outposts. The German military will ultimately push the Herero into the Kalahari desert, where most will die of thirst. Two years later, less than 25% of the Herero were still alive, and most of these were held in concentration camps to provide cheap labor. A year later, over one half of the Nama peoples had also been killed. All together, more than 60% of the population
had been eliminated under Gen. Lothar von Trotha. Ultimately, a system of registration and segregation laws were passed that later
served as the direct model for South Africa’s Apartheid system. (K)
