began in 1845 when a mold caused a destructive plant disease that spread rapidly throughout Ireland. This was made worse by the large amounts of food that were exported to England as a tax and England's ideas of laissez faire policies where they did nothing to help the Irish. Leading to more than 1 million to deaths by starvation and related diseases, and more than 2 million left to emigration.
