Old English Period (1 ene 450 año – 1 ene 1066 año)
Descripción:
The Old English Period, also known as the Anglo-Saxon period, was a time in English history that spanned from the 5th to the 11th century. During this time, the Anglo-Saxons, Jutes, and Saxons, Germanic tribes, invaded and established their kingdoms in Britain.
The Old English language, also known as Anglo-Saxon, was spoken during this period and was written in a runic alphabet that was gradually replaced by the Latin alphabet. Old English is difficult for modern English speakers to understand due to significant differences in grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.
Literature written in Old English includes epic poems such as "Beowulf" and "Cædmon's Poem", as well as historical chronicles such as "The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle". The Christian religion also had a great influence on the literature of this period, and numerous religious texts were written, such as "The Dream of the Cross" and "The Life of Saint Cuthbert".
The Old English Period came to an end with the Norman conquest of England in 1066, which brought with it French as the dominant language at court and in literature.
