Cortes and his crew reached the coast of Mexico in Febuary, 1519. They decided to form allies with the natives in order to inquire the information about the place they want to conquer, the Aztec Empire. Cortes also sunk all of his ships to make his people to fight without thinking about retreating. The Aztech Empire was enormous and strong at that time, ruled by Montezuma II, with 500 small states and 5 to 6 million people. On Novermber 8th, 1519, Cortes entered the city Tenochtitlan with his allies that he had made. Montezuma did not treat them as enemies, yet he thought that Cortes and his men were sent by the God in their religion. Montzezuma treated the Spanish frendily and Cortes used the opportunity to take hostage of Montezuma. Ultimately they won the fight.
