Apartheid in South Africa (1 ene 1948 año – 1 jun 1981 año)

Descripción:

The nation of South Africa, a former British colony, created a strict legal code of separating people along racial lines. The white minority looked at the US south for inspiration. The nonwhite majority were oppressed, killed, jailed, and suffered economic suffering, and lacked basic rights.

People around the world worked to end the apartheid state, and Nelson Mandela (who was sat in jail for many years for protesting against apartheid) was elected South Africa's first black president when apartheid fell. Mandela and leaders like Desmond Tutu worked to create a peaceful transition and worked on finding ways to allow the country to heal.
