The French Revolution had both short and long term causes. One of the long term causes was the economic instability from funding the American Revolution and the Seven Years' War. A short term cause was the increase in the price of necessities, specifically bread. These events made it even harder for the Third Estate to survive in France, so that had to take action against the upper estates and the monarchy.
