The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), most commonly known as The Rio Conference, or The Earth Summit, was a very important conference held in Rio de Janeiro in June, 1992 to attempt to reconcile worldwide economic development with the protection of the environment.

It was the largest gathering of world leaders at the time, with representatives from 178 nations. Thanks to this Summit, most of the World’s countries agreed to pursue economic development while being sustainable and protecting the environment.
