Walpole has been called the first prime minister and architect of cabinet government. He strategically selected parliament members so that they were more united. He tried to keep out of controversy and at peace (until inevitably being drawn into the War for Jenkins Ear). After economic collapse with the South Sea Company and after the Bubble Act, he managed to save the South Sea Company, the East India Company, and the Bank of England, which were temporarily discredited in the eyes of the public.
