Yugoslavia was a multinational state which basically means that it had multiple nations in one state. Yugoslavia included Sloven, Macedonian, Bosnian, Montenegrin, Croatian, and Serbian nations. because they had so many nations it led to conflict and wars, and this is the reason why they split. They did not have a peaceful split like Czechoslovakia did and the conflicts continued for many years after Yugoslavia broke up. Yugoslavia broke up into many nation-states, they are nation-states because they have nation characteristics like common history and language, they are also states becuase they have a governemtn that controls their affairs and defined borders..
