Early Middle Ages (2 ene 810 año – 1 ene 1084 año)

Descripción:

Under Agnello Partipazio and his two sons (810-836), Venice grew into its modern form, urbanizing the heart of the modern city. Under successor Pietro Tradonico, Venice began to establish its military might and signed a trade agreement with Holy Roman Emperor Lothair I, and secured the seas against pirates. Candiano then have autocratic, philo-imperial dynasty, eventually overthrown by revolt. Under Pietro II Orseolo, Venice gain loyalty of Istrians, Dalmatians and Narentines and establish their prominence over the Adriatic Sea, and his son Otto consolidates this in his rule. Venetian neutrality over appointment of church officials caused some attrition of support from Popes. Doge Domenico Selvo supports Byzantines in war against Normans of Apulia, gain declaration of Venetian supremacy in Adriatic coast up to Durazzo and exemption for merchant taxes in entire Byzantine Empire. This is major factor in future Venetian accumulation of wealth and power as middlemen in silk and spice trade. War was not a military success but the city gained total independence.
