Period 3: Revolutionary Era 1754 - 1783 (1 ene 1783 año – 23 abr 2010 año)
Descripción:
Enduring Understanding: The end of salutary neglect as a result of the French and Indian war led the colonists to declare independence. They garnered support for independence through a variety of means including art and idea pamphlets based on things such as the First Great Awakening and the Enlightenment. However, these ideas of liberty and equality were not inclusive.
3A: Taxation without representation was one of the primary causes of the American Revolution. The colonists were being taxed without any person representing them in Parliament and many casual items, such as tea and newspapers, were taxed. The Boston Massacre was another factor that led up to the American Revolution. Colonists were killed by British soldiers while protesting, and this continued to anger the colonists. Furthermore, the Intolerable Acts were also another cause of the American Revolution. These acts continued to take the rights of colonists, for example, they continued to have to allow British soldiers to stay with them (Quartering Act).
3B: The Articles of Confederation failed due to its' weaknesses. Due to the fear from taxation without representation, the people didn't want the government to be able to tax the people, so they didn't give it that power. That way, they couldn't fund things like the army. Furthermore, Congress had no real way to enforce the laws because all of the 13 states had to give their consent. If not all 13 states consented, the laws couldn't be passed. Lastly, Congress also didn't have the power to regulate commerce and trade, making it messier.
