This shogunate is weak and lacking in central power, compared to the Kamakura shogunate and the later Tokugawa shogunate. It's lacking in land as shōen kept being split to give to warriors, there's strife with the Southern court as well. Shugo title is given to influential warriors by Takauji. Fewer personal and family relations with the shogunate.
A period of nearconstant fighting. There's a brief period in which Imperial rule is reestablished during the Kenmu restoration,
followed by the Ashikaga Bakufu. Daimyō, or local warlords, become increasingly powerful Japan is split into a number of territories fighting each other for supremacy. Ended when Ashikaga Yoshiaki was expelled from the capital in Kyoto by Oda Nobunaga in
1573.
