XYZ affair (13 jul 1797 año – 1 nov 1798 año)

Descripción:

In 1797, Washington sent delegates to France to try to stop them from seizing US merchant ships. However, the French ministers, known as, X, Y, and Z requested bribes in exchange for entering into negotiations which infuriated Americans who wanted a War with France.
The significance of this was that anger against France let the Federalists win both houses of Congress and to pass the Alien and Sedition acts, restricting the Pro French Democratic-Republicans
