Raid on Georgetown and capture of Lt Col Campbell (24 ene 1781 año – 25 ene 1781 año)

Late night of January 24th, Lt. Col. Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee and the recently commissioned Brigadier General Francis Marion made a two-pronged surprise attack on Georgetown. Patriots of Lee's Legion used boats to move down the Pee Dee River and under the cover of darkness entered Georgetown unnoticed. Patriots rushed British Headquarters capturing the British Commander, Lt Col Campbell without firing a shot. Patriots also surrounded the tavern killing Maj Irvine and capturing Adjutant John Crookshank. The rest of the British troops gathered in the brick jailhouse which Brig Gen Marion deemed to strong to take without artillery. British troops who were quartered in homes barricaded themselves. Patriots chose not to attack the homes and withdrew.
