Moved to France to start working as an engineer at the Continental Edison Company designing improvements for the electrical equipment brought from across the ocean thanks to Edison's ideas. Two years later he immigrated to the United States.

According to his biography, in the same year he conceived the induction motor and initiated the development of several devices using the rotating magnetic field for which he received patents in eighteen eighty-eight
