The Berlin Conflict (4) (24 jun 1948 año – 9 nov 1989 año)

Descripción:

What started with an exploitation blockade ended with the division and isolation of West Berlin from the East, as well as the rest of the world. The Soviets blockaded West Berlin, governed by the US, in an attempt to force them to use only Soviet supplies, but this blockade was stopped by US forces. The Soviets further angered the US by building a wall around West Berlin in 1961, isolating them from the rest of Germany and the world, in an attempt to keep Easterners from escaping to the West. (The wall was finally torn down in 1989.)

Ranking: 4. Why?
This unfair act gave the US a good reason to attack the USSR, which would have officially sparked the war. This event was very important in shaping the course of the Cold War because of how lightly both sides had to tread in order to avoid violence. This would not have happened, however, if Germany wasn't divided in the first place, so the Division of Germany at Yalta is placed above the Berlin Conflict.
