JFK was president from 1960-1963 and served during one of the peaks of the Cold War. He would start his administration with the failed "Bay of Pigs" invasion in Cuba, and exponentially increase the American military budget to increase the US's missiles and nuclear weapons stock. The tail-end of his administration would be consumed by the Cuban Missile Crisis which he narrowly adverted. (The Cold War | JFK Library)
