The daughter of Catherine of Aragon, Mary, had taken over the throne after her brother had reigned for just six years. She was a Catholic who had returned the English Church's power to rule again. Yet, her efforts were met with resistance as many of the people were still Protestants. Many of these Protestants were executed.
