The Golden Horde was originally a part of the Mongol Empire that eventually split off from it and was located in modern-day Russia. Unlike the Ilkhanate, it did not conform with the region's culture, instead remaining very Mongolian in nature. However, this made it unpopular with the Russia populations who viewed the regime as illegitimate.
