Following the failure of the 1774 rebellion under the leadership of the martial-arts and herbal-healing expert Wang Lun in Shandong, a larger White Lotus Rebellion springs up in the impoverished provinces of Hubei, Shaanxi, and Sichuan. While eventually defeated, the rebellion proved the Qing government's army was not undefeatable.
