Santiago Ramon y Cajal (1 ene 1852 año – 1 ene 1934 año)
Descripción:
Spanish Neuroanatomist and fuckin loved his job
-An artist of science ("...all outstanding work, in art as well as in science, results from immense zeal applied to a great idea")
-Inspired by Golgi's work, and expanded on it
-Describes a neuron as an "aristocrat among structures of the body, with its giant arms stretched out like the tentacles of an octopus to the provinces on the frontier of the outside world"
-Believed the neuron was the basic unit of the nervous system, but rather than being physically connect (as Golgi predicted), he argued that each neuron was a separate unit, merely adjacent to/in contact with one another.
-His view opposed Golgi's, and they had a very (patriotism-fueled) rivalry, which made for an awkward Nobel Prize ceremony in 1906 when they were both selected to share the award for basically the same research (they both threw some SHADE in their speeches)
